Has Xbox 360 squelched the Playstation 3's advantages?
Monday
On paper the Playstation 3 looked mighty impressive when compared to the Xbox 360 originally at E3 2005. It seemed that the true next generation would not start until Sony said so. Or would it? (This article is not a fanboy rant but simple a means to hold Sony accountable for their promises.)With the features listed below its easy to see why.
- Free online community and ability to play games ( Match Xbox Live feature for Feature )
- 1080p support
- More power due to Cell processor / better graphics
- Blue Ray drive - HD Movies and more game content
- Dual HDMI ports
- Internet web browsing capabilities
- Exclusive titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4
- Free online community and ability to play games ( Match Xbox Live feature for Feature ) This absolutely did not happen. The Playstation network is almost broken when compared to Xbox live. The consensus is people do not mind paying for Live due to the features offered and sense of community. With the coming of "IPTV" Live appears only to be getting better and better.
- 1080p support Xbox 360 added 1080p ability through last falls dashboard update. If you have the proper AV equipment all games are "upsampled" to 1080p. Also true native 1080p games are starting to hit the 360 with the coming of Virtua Tennis 3 and NBA Street Homecourt. Also there is that annoying issue with the Playstation 3's lack of resolution scaling with certain HDTVs.
- More power due to Cell processor / better graphics - Is this really true? The proof is in the pudding folks. If you compare titles of the PS3 and the 360 the actual consensus is that the Xbox 360 looks supeior. I realize the Xbox 360 has been on the market longer and developers have had time with the dev kits but thats not Microsofts problem. If you couple this with certain games lacking online capability completely on the Playstation 3 the Xbox 360 version is the obvious choice.
- Blue Ray drive - HD Movies and more game content - It appears that Blue Ray is starting to edge ahead of HD dvd with the release of more content and movie studio support. However, how important is this to gaming. Yes the Blue Ray discs hold massive amounts of data which could in turn make games infinitely long. But how long do we as gamers actually want our games? Oblivion clocking in at over 100 hrs seems ample and sometimes over whelming to myself and it fit on 1 standard dvd. Even further if you wanted a game twice as lengthy as Oblivion, which seems ridiculous, whats wrong with having 2 discs? It also appears Sony may have problems running all of the "massive data" provided by the Blue Rays discs in the Playstation 3's system memory. Sources are reporting that Oblivion is being downgraded to fit with in the PS3's memory contraints as reported by Joystiq. I would have like to see the money spent on Blue Ray go to a feature that would actually impact gameplay such as more system memory.
- Dual HDMI ports - This is not even worth touching as it was DOA like PS2 "toy story graphics" promises. Pure hype.
- Internet web browsing capabilities - Granted this is a unique feature but who really wants to use their console for web surfing? I know its free and all but web browsing just fits better on a PC. I know there is a small percentage of people out there who actually like this feature but I do not think it will help sell the console. At the price of 599.99 consumers can get an actual PC cheaper than the Playstation 3.
- Exclusive titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4 - It appears that exclusive games are becoming a thing of the past. With the rising costs of game development developers are having to get the greatest return on investment possible by releasing their games multi-platform. As a result exclusive games are more and more going the way of the Dodo bird.

I think sony lost their advantage. they lost their 1080p only console title. They also lost their graphics superiority title. My understanding is the Xbox 360 has a better videocard and better memory bandwidth, which the PS3 has a stronger main processor, but only so slightly. We all know having a quad core intel CPU in a PC with onboard graphics isnt going to run OBLIVION @ 1600x1200 w/ 4xaa and 16x af. Where as a single core 4000+ AMD processor w/ an 8800 GTX can. So the processor advantage isnt as great when your comparing videogame consoles. As you said exclusives are falling off the sony boat, which was their main advantage last generation. I think it will be a very close battle, and will be a surprising ending to say the least. Xbox 360 is the winner in the forseeable future as far as IM concerned. Maybe a few years down the road sony may catch up.

I think this i biased too, but still made a few good points. I have both PS3 and Xbox 360. I think the Xbox has better games right now, but PS3 has a better UI when not playing games. The PS3 also just seems a lot more powerful (whether or not it actually is) while you are using it. If i had to choose one right now i would choose Xbox 360. Maybe next year i will change my mind. Xbox live is awesome and Halo is greater then any game PS3 has right now. It might change by next year though

While many of your arguments sound good at first read, they are mostly based on speculation, rumors, and even false rumors.
1. Free online community and ability to play games ( Match Xbox Live feature for Feature )
Online play is free. While the PSN does not match Xbox Live feature for feature as of right now, it can always be upgraded and will be upgraded for more features. Xbox Live has evolved as well. It wasn't like it is now when it first started.
2. 1080p support
ALL PS3s are capable of 1080p video output on most every 1080p monitor. Might I stress that ALL PS3s can do this. As for the Xbox360, I have heard that current models can output 1080p IF you use VGA and IF the TV supports 1080p input over VGA, which is a VERY small percentage of TVs. You could buy a new 360 that has the HDMI port and will cost the same as the PS3 however.
3. More power due to Cell processor / better graphics
Many devs have stated that this is true. While early games were rough because devs are still getting used to the architecture and didn't efficiently port games to PS3, many devs are saying that they are able to do things that they didn't think were possible. Just wait and see how games will start to look.
4. Blue Ray drive - HD Movies and more game content
I must start out by saying that it is Blu-ray, not Blue Ray. People are using PS3s as Blu-ray players. That is why Blu-ray sales have increased nearly 10 fold since the release of the PS3. What other explanation is there for this phenomenon. If people are buying PS3s for Blu-ray then they will most likely buy games for the PS3 as well. This increases sales for PS3 and entices devs to create more games. It's Win-Win for the PS3. The rumors that state that Oblivion has been downgraded are completely false. The devs have stated that the game loads faster, runs smoother, and has better graphics then the Xbox360 version. They also stated that the memory problems with the game were rumors started when a news source misinterpreted something they said about the different memory architectures. It also comes with more content, namely the Knights of Nine expansion already built in.
5. Dual HDMI ports
Sony saw that this just added cost to the console with little to no benefit or use. There is no reason for it.
6. Internet web browsing capabilities
This is something that I enjoy quite a bit myself. I don't use it for everyday browsing but it's nice to browse photo albums online or watch YouTube videos on the bigscreen with the sound system rather then on a computer monitor while sitting at a desk. I never thought it was much of a feature until I started to do that. It's also nice to download Podcasts and listen to them on my sound system.
7. Exclusive titles
You make it sound like there will never be any exclusive titles for the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 is PS3 exclusive, Kojima himself has stated that he does not want to have to compromise any part of the game so that he can port it to Xbox360. He has also stated that he is glad he has the capacity of Blu-ray. The reason I got a PS3 was because of Blu-ray and exclusive titles. I won't see games like God of War, Gran Turismo 5, MGS4, or Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox360. These are just a few of the exclusive games that I want. These games are why I have a PS3 and not a 360. - At 11:56 PM, said...

Full disclosure - my only console is a 360 w/HD-DVD drive
I think the author makes some good points, but downplays two things. One - the importance of the PS3 shipping with a Blu-ray drive. Two - the raw horsepower of the PS3. When it is all said and done the PS3 may be the tipping point in the HD war. No guarantees obviously but somebody is starting to write on the wall. And then secondly, the technical superiority of the PS3 won't be known until a year from now. So while the 360 has done well holding its own with the PS3, 12 months from now if Blu-ray starts to truly win out over HD-DVD, and the PS3 gets some games that prove out its technical prowess...well let's just say the fat lady won't be singing for a while. - At 11:58 PM, NBC said...

It is great how people that are responding to the article and not just bashing use a name, while those that just want to bash and not contribute are "anonymous".
Anyway, I don't own either the 360 or a PS3, not yet anyway. But people I work with have XBox 360's, and a guy I know has a PS3. They both look good, and the XBox is not without its faults. The hardware has shown some reliability problems.
But the PS3 has been one failure after another. It feels like the PSP but on a larger scale. I had a PSP, and six games and two movies. It has great graphics, but without really great games, and a larger fan base to play games with, it is nothing compared to the DS.
The PS3 is going down the same road. I know 1 person with a PS3, and at least six with XBox 360's. I know more people with the Wii than the PS3.
Good for Sony if they can turn it around, but they really have a lot of work to do, and need to learn to listen to their remaining fans. - At 11:59 PM, said...

i disagree, its way to early to compare the two consoles, give ps3 a chance to find its feet and then watch what happens. my prediction is that ps3 is going to outlast the xbox simply because it has a larger worldwide fanbase.

This is so sad. I mean honestly, may of these arguments are the same ones I had prior to the launch of the PS3.
I just think it's time we stop with all this Microsoft v. Sony Fanboy BULLSH!T. It's old and tiring. Personally, I prefer the Xbox to the PS2. Therefore, I am going to purchase a 360 before I purchase a PS3. However, my boss prefers a PS3. Do we sit around at work and argue about which is better? No. Face the facts, right now the Xbox is outperforming the PS3 on a lot of fronts. The PS3 has a lot of work to do to catch up. And lets be honest here folks. The Xbox 360 is going to keep improving. The next version with HDMI will not run the same price as the PS3 as one person here alluded to. The real reason you are paying 599 a console? The BlueRay Drive. You can very easily pay that price for a 360 if you purchase an HD-DVD Drive. Right now, performance wise... PS3 has no edge. Will that change? Maybe. Xbox came out after the ps2 and was better in the end. The real truth is that its mainly fanboys that are running the PS3's limited success right now. The 360 was more affordable and was taken care of well. Was marketed well. Had plenty of games for the Holidays. And no shortage. That's why the 360 sold more consoles in December than the Wii and PS3 combined.(This story was on digg less than a month ago) Face it folks... in the only arena that really matters... The PS3 is losing and that is sales. So what if the PS2 is outselling the 360. That just means its really outselling the PS3. Never good when you're outdated product that isn't any good compared to the new one outsells it by leaps and bounds. Let's face it folks. Many in wall street called the PS3 the end for Sony. And like I said, all that matters at the end of the day is sales. Because a dismal failure in sales ends a products lifeline. You think that if the Ipod Shuffle than Nano wouldn't have caught on they would still be pushing an iPhone? No. Point is for the third time Sony is losing. So say he's biased or whatever... Say I'm biased... Curse at me... Cuss me out... Do whatever makes you fell better... cause I know the truth hurts a fanboy.
(Disclaimer: The only working game console I have right now is a PS2. I threw my Xbox into a street and broke it. So don't call me a fanboy cause I wouldn't have thrown it if I was. And I would've bought an Xbox to replace it instead of buying the PS2.) - At 1:02 AM, said...

Even though HD gaming is huge right now, this whole 360 vs. PS3 dogfight is a waste if time. These things always come down to the games and how many titles there are.
I bought an original xbox in 2003 (instead of a PS2) because I recently bought an HDTV. xbox had slightly better graphics at that time but the PS2 had way, way more titles and quality games than the xbox ever did. But microsoft did well enough, probably because of the Live service and the game Halo...
So, what remains to be seen is whether or not Sony will be able to keep their developer support and churn out more games and better games than the xbox 360. And at this point, it's starting to look like the 1 year head start microsoft had is paying HUGE dividends.
I'm also not jumping on the Blu Ray bandwagon just yet either. The hardware players and the cost of producing the media are both considerably more $$ than HD-DVD. This is Betamax vs. VHS all over again and frankly I'm not excited to support either format because the whole thing is so stupid.
I haven't bought a next-gen console yet and I'm seriously considering just getting a Wii for now. - At 1:21 AM, Mike said...

Wow, this article is a huge pile of shit. Learn how to fucking write something constructive, with substance, based in reality.
I find it incredible that idiots still waste their time writing articles like this that prove absolutely nothing.
If I had written an article when the 360 came out, it would have gone something like this:
1. REALLY EXPENSIVE, ITTY BITTY HARD DRIVE YOU CAN'T UPGRADE WITH A STANDARD SATA DRIVE
2. NO GOOD GAMES
3. I RUN COD2 WITH HIGHER IMAGE QUALITY SETTINGS AND BETTER FRAME RATES ON MY 2 YEAR OLD PC
Idiots are still complaining about the PS3's price point. Most of these idiots own a 360 and the HD-DVD drive.
TIME FOR SOME MATH KIDDIES:
$399 Premium XBOX360 w/ weak 20GB HDD + $199.99 HD-DVD EXTERNAL (ick) Drive = $599.98
$599 PlayStation 3 w/ 60GB (*3 XBOX360 HDD) hdd + $0 internal (n1) Blu-Ray Player = $599.99
HOLY SHIT THE PLAYSTATION 3 IS FUCKING 1 CENT MORE EXPENSIVE WHEN PROPERLY COMPARED TO THE 360 AND STILL HAS *3 THE HDD SPACE.

just a couple of words to say...oblivion, Gears of War, Rainbow six vegas, Halo 3. 360 has a conquering title in, what seems like, every genre. I live on a college campus and I never hear about any ps3 titles. People only talk about 360. Even good sports titles are very availible on Xbox. I understand they just came out with ps3 and over time it will gain more titles, but so will 360. Sony will really need to pick up some slack in helping developers release those titles that people are looking for (Final Fantasy). Perhaps in the future I will shell out some cash for a sony product. Although, the Wii is alot of fun and is only $250. Nough said.

Has anyone realised, through all the "graphics, Cell processor, etc." touting that in the last generation PS2 won even though it had inferior hardware because it had a year head-start over the Xbox and not much else (no killer apps, built in Ethernet/HDD)? Sounds kind of like the position Microsoft is in now: a year head-start with inferior hardware. The situation now is different, though: the 360 has at least one killer app (Gears) and the difference in power is not nearly as large and obviously both systems are ready for online play and have hard drives.
In short, PS3 currently has nothing going for it gaming-wise, Oblivion proves that you don't need 25Gb to make a long game, and seriously, are you people so lazy that you can't get up and change a disc? Is that what Blu-Ray offers for gaming? I didn't see anyone whining about 4 Disc RPGs for PS1 back in the day. - At 3:21 AM, said...

The problem is not in the hardware per se, although taking away functionality by disabling the rumble feature on the ps3 controler doesn't help things.
The problem is the PS3 is 200 bucks more and has only one game that I want to play. The 360 is the winner right now because it has better games, period.
Now in the future if they when sony gets some compelling exclusives and the price comes down then I might think about it.
It wouldn't kill them to bring bak the rumble. Or just update the controller completely. Its a little thing but rumble really brings you into the experience.
Right now I got to save up for a big ass hdtv, thats what these consoles are setting us up for anyway. The text is almost illegible and some games are letterboxed because they want you to buy a big tv. As more people get these hd sets ps3 sales will probably pick up. who wants to spend 600 on a super sharp graphics next gen system when you can't afford the nice plasma to properly watch blueray or hd. - At 3:32 AM, said...

To the guy who made a big deal of the fact that the 360 has a 20GB hard drive compared to the PS3's 60GB hard drive..

Jesus, hard drives in consoles really aren't that big of a selling point.

Anyhow, to PS3 or to XBOX360?
On the pricing issue:
XBOX360 (Hard Drive Model, HD-DVD Drive, huge software library and WiFi adapter= $700 add online you'll be at $800 and that's without any games.
PS3 Hard Drive 60, WiFi Built-in, Blu-Ray built-in $600
If you are going to Nickel and Dime the systems pricing-value maybe you should stay with the last generations consoles and their Thrifty $20 Games! Otherwise get a second paper route or just a "Job" and stop the whining.
Personally I prefer competition -it's a good thing, keeps pricing and market manipulations in check so I prefer that others buy the exact opposite of my choice. So go and get your ******** and be happy with your choice. It's all about what YOU want to play not everyone else.

My opinion is based on marketing prospective.
Sony thinks that we're accepting what they present to the consumers is what it is. This is a marketing principle that works long as it is valid. However Sony's statement about PS3 is not valid and lost the trust of consumers. The position of PS3 in a consumer's mind is a piece of expensive crap with a title.

Look, I'm not a fan boy here, and someone already made this point, but I do think Sony really fucked up here. Yeah, the Cell processor is really cool and all, but when it comes down to pushing pixels, its all about the video card, and theres plenty of documentation all over about how the 360 actually has a better card (a DX10 SM4.0 card, shared shaders, etc..). If you were gonna compare the two in Folding, yeah, the PS3 will win, but having a next gen processor and a "pretty good" (about a 7800gtx) video card will not beat a "pretty good processor" and a next gen video card for gaming. Now don't even get me started on how Sony has been treating their fans.

Gears of War developer says they pushed the XBOX360 to the limit.
EA is saying they have only used 20% of PS3's power.
I like both consoles, but I think in the end PS3 will have better games.
By the way, my XBOX360 came out to be more expensive than my PS3. I bought the WIFI card and a HDDVD player ($700 total). I got it before I got my PS3.
Also, my brother who is not a gamer, not interested in any games at all is buying the 20G PS3 for blu-ray movies.

Xbox360 vs PS3… Who’s the best ? There's no competition for now.
For now, xbox360, clearly win on almost every aspect. Graphic, price and games. There's nothing to say here. If you want to play HD games tomorrow, you NEED a 360.
PS3 is at his first gen. Still bugs to fix, lot of problems since launch, overpriced and no killer apps for launch!
Xbox360 is A LOT easier for developers since it works pretty much like a computer cell and Microsoft support homebrew with XNA. Microsoft is powerful and they have a pretty big thing working on the 360 since launch. Even in japan, where xbox has been abandoned since launch some bestsellers games of the past weeks are on xbox360 exclusive!
Why does everyone is fighting for who’s winning ? If you have a PS3 and you like it, good thing for you, I like my ps3 too, but for now, Ps3 and Wii are really far away from what the 360 can offer to videogames fan. - At 6:28 PM, said...

Face It PS Fans Your beloved PS3 is a piece of shit... Anyone could buy a Nintendo Wii and a MST Xbox 360 and it would cost around the same as the PS3. Sony has had their time on top, and after releasing their copyright protection audio cd that fucked everyone computers, lying about their PS3, and failing to meet PS3 hype, I wouldn't even take a PS3 if someone offered it to me for free. The Playstation online network will never be as good as Xbox Live because Live has had a 6 year head start and obviously MST knows online a lot better then Sony ever will. Sony has reached their end, sorry Sony fan boys....LOL

I am not a fanboy, I don't own a 360 or a PS3. In fact I own a Wii.
All I have to say is that, if I'm not mistaken Sony had sold aproximately 1.2-1.5 times more systems then Microsoft sold in its opening 2 months.
Both systems had similarly weak game catalogs at launch. Both systems are equally pricced if you spec them similarly.
The war between the two seems undecided to me.
But if the war is leaning in any direction right now it would be towards the Wii. I beleive they have already sold 4 million units and you still can't find one.
I think the next 12 months will really be the deciding factor. - At 11:58 AM, said...

All these complaining and bickering, it's like the first wives club...
I have all three consoles so let me chime in here.
Here's the truth...it is too early to tell. Yes Microsoft got a head start and they have already sold 10 million 360's worldwide. Sony is just out the gate and hasn't had a killer launch game in their last two system launches. Resistance is good but not great. Nintendo has reestablished themselves as an alternative console. A killer title like Zelda at launch certainly helps their cause.
Now you can sit here and bitch and moan about CPU power and potential but the fact of the matter is I buy these systems for the games. Not because the machine can outrun Michael Vick. Right now 360 has got the games and the better online service. There is potential in the PS3 but right now thats all there is potential. The two have seemed to do a role reversal here. Last gen it was the PS2 out the gate first then Microsoft with the more powerful machine. But you all bitch that the 360 doesn't come with this and that. Well dumbasses the PS2 didn't come with 4 player support, a headset, a network plugin. All that had to be bought AS ACCESSORIES.
Everybody just needs to take a nice talk glass of "SHUT THE $%^& UP" and let this little war play out. And in 3 years maybe then we can look back and see who is ahead and who is behind. But to comment on it now is to predict who's going to win the Daytona 500 30 laps into the race. - At 6:07 PM, said...

I remember the time that I lost my dog. I spent all afternoon looking for him. "Bunko" "Bunko" Where are you? Suddenly out of nowhere, Bunko jumped out of the bushes and barked. We fell to the floor laughing. That was a good day.

Very well written, I don't own a PS3, I really wanted too but I see no reason right now, all my gaming is on the 360 and Wii (when I can find one)
Sony f'd up. It really doesn't bother me at all. My 360 does just fine.
Oh @ Giga
"Gears of War developer says they pushed the XBOX360 to the limit."
No it didn't, that is a fanboy statement, plain and simple.
"EA is saying they have only used 20% of PS3's power."
EA will only end up being able to use about 35% of its total power by the time the next XBOX comes around.
"I like both consoles, but I think in the end PS3 will have better games."
I actually agree with you on that one, but Sony is not taking the proper approach to ensure that it happens.
"By the way, my XBOX360 came out to be more expensive than my PS3. I bought the WIFI card and a HDDVD player ($700 total). I got it before I got my PS3."
True, but you did not have to, it wasn't all or nothing which is why the 360 is appealing to alot of people, SONY is forcing, yes forcing, a not-yet accepted format down the consumer's throat. That is f'd up.
I really don't care about the names on the consoles I purchase, I care about the games which they play, so far the 360 has given me that, now if I wanted a Blu-Ray, I sure as shit would have gotten the PS3. I do not and will not have a HD-DVD for my 360, it's in the same boat as Blu-Ray IMO. The 360 offers many things besides very good games, I like DL a HD movie and watching it, thats easy, convenient, and not too expensive. WHo in their right mind would not like that? I like to DL stuff in the backround while I am playing a game, I like chatting with a friend regardless of what I am doing on the 360. I think the controller is top notch, I personally think the PS3 controller feels like its fake because it is so light.
In the end I just want good games to play. - At 11:06 PM, said...

Bought my Xbox 360 and they gave me the *CHOICE* to add on the HD-DVD player (which I did). I wasn't bullied into buying an unnecessary video player (Oblivion proves that). I love XBLive and am impressed with Gears of War and many, many other great titles. It is interesting how Sony fans always say, "wait until the devs have a chance to learn how to program for PS3". I think the main difference now is that Sony had gotten such a swelled head and doesn't care about its customers. Microsoft seems to be always listening to user imput and improving the service/experience. As a gamer I appreciate that. Great system, great games, excellent value.

easiest comparison...... Gears of War vs. any of the PS3 games out there and coming out in the future.
both systems are very comparable. I do have both systems (the PS3 was a gift)... why pay $200 extra to play bluray movies and have slower load times? - At 11:57 AM, said...

listen to be honest all this screaming yelling and hooha is getting really out of hand.
gaming isnt fun anymore. wen you have idiots screaming and abusing people for liking a certain system i mean come on! are we back in primary school? i live in australia and as such it becomes a technological backwater but to be honest i want innovation, i want games that are fun, i want games that are different. i love all my consoles (i have or owned pretty much every console since the atari 2600) and to be honest im going with the wii for now. its doin sumthing different that hasn't been done a million times before! its making games fun again. dont get me wrong im dying to get a 360 but to be honest sony are going to have to pull something big out of there hats soon if they are going to save the ps3. its going to have good games no doubt about that, but im not willing to pay $1000 aus for it and not use 3/4 of the features that are the "selling points" of the console. blu-ray is ages off so who knows... only time will tell - At 1:02 AM, A GOOD Perspective said...

why do people keeping bring up the $600 price... its a ps3..... its expensive... get over it you cheep poor fags
PS3= a linux a Blu-Ray player and HDMI
Xbox360= is a year old console, 365 days is plenty time for developer to dig in deep and harnes its power
the 360 is better now but the ps3 will catch up and exceed in about 3Years but micrisoft plans on making a XBOX 720 in about 5Years
and what then and just like the first xbox the 360 will be forgoten and MS is gona move on to the latest console which will be more expensive then ps3 then people will start comparing those two and it will be Deja Vu all over again but with a twist that the ps3 will be where the 360 is and the Xbox 720 will be where the ps3 is
ULTIMATELY THE PS3 IS A BETTER CHOISE IN THE LONG RUN - At 1:19 AM, a guy who's tring said...

the blue ray wasnt really meant to play games first of all, well, in a way it was, but it was really meant for the console to be bought as a $400 cheaper blue ray payer (also better performance compared to other players a lot of reviews say). also, the blue ray player only came out a few months ago and i bet u anything that it will come in handy in the future guaranteed since technology could do anything it wants to do in this society.
i would also like to point out about the web browsing, ok the computer is made for web browsing, but for some kids out there that really need to use the computer, but cant use it since your parents always hog it, i would really really like to get a web browser for myself in my own room. i know there are a lot of kids in my position.
the only damn reason why i dont have a ps3 yet is because it cost so damn much money. its maybe part of because im still a kid with out a job, but if i did have a job, i would get the damn console with the snap of my fingers. i dont even have a xbox 360 either because right now, im not really into games, maybe a few.
so thats the only reason why i want a ps3...im only 25% gamer, 25% into the latest movie format shit, and 50% really need my own internet browser. i know there are a thousands of people in america that are in my position right now. - At 3:48 PM, said...

First i would like to say i own a wii and geting 360 soon. i like all the systems but why would i want this blue ray shit i mean its a gaming console. Lastly 360 has halo 3 u cant beat that u just cant.

ok you fuck bags listen up ps3 = god, 360 = shit, think about this the 360 has no chance against the ps3 in the future, for one thing the ps3 has AI artificial intelligence...allowing the games to never get old. it learns now tell me can the 360 do that? no, also the sixaxis controller, another brilliant invention i might add tilt one way the gameplay also tilts the movement of your hands effects however that game is played, 360 looses in that aswell. another thing the 360 has been availible for well over a yr now and at first you all know it had bugs just aswell. give the ps3 another yr and watch how it will devour the 360. oh an here is a title that will destrot all previous title for the 360 even gears of war ( great game i might add) but in the end METAL GEAR SOLID 4 will put an end to you asshole's rant about how the xbox 360 is better than the ps3 =D

I had all 3 systems, I prefer the Xbox 360 mainly because of Xbox Live. The PS3 is a very solid machine, but just doesnt offer as much as far as online play goes.
The nintendo wii surprised me, The Nunchuck and Remote makes this system bad ass.
All have their goods and bads.
Interesting website. Google search PS3 vs. Wii vs. 360. PS3 has sold 1.5 million, Wii 4.8 million, and 10.6 million for the 360.
Obviously some of you will say "360 has been out longer". Its not Mircrosofts problem Sony waited to release
Also, Do some research. You will find that Sony is disappointed in their console and game sales.
Now most of you love your systems and they all are great. Just enjoy them. - At 2:43 PM, said...

Forgot to mention for the Poster who said "Give the ps3 time and it will devour the 360".
Are you talking about Sales? So far this year the Wii is owning the sales and the 360 is in 2nd and the PS3 is lagging behind.
If your talking about performance, then you are PROBABLY correct. Its not all about performance though, its about having fun. :) - At 9:22 PM, said...

Ok, i will admit, i am....... a sony fanboy. I will also admit what i have seen TODAY graphically 360 is better, thats if you compare the games that are out for both consoles.
But look at this... Remember when the 360 launched out and the games they had for it, the graphics sucked real bad for next gen, and in only a year(which seems like ages for gamers) it improved ALOT, and might even get better(Its Bill Gates were talking about here). Now the ps3 launced out and the graphics looks almost the same( you cant really tell the difference unless you examine it). tell me why the xbox360 graphics are marginly better then the ps3 when it has a 1 year headstart. If the xbox went this far graphic wise in a year, imagine ps3.
Yes, the xbox does currently have more games then ps3, but thats because it has 1 year ahead of the ps3, common sense.
Xbox people say that blu ray isnt all that great, all that space is not ment for longer games. your right they can easily make 2-4 dics games.with that much extra space you can add more to the game, to make the game have good graphics, sound, etc. Have you seen the price for a blu-ray dvd player, more then the ps3, so you are getting more for less, also have you seen on TV, that every new DVD that is comming out is also available for blu-ray.Now yes, i do have ps3 and its sad, because i dont have a 1080 HD tv to get the full experience, remember when digital big screens first came out, realy exspenive, and now there cheap as hell, same will be with the HD TV, please people just give the PS3 a chance and you will see what i am talking about. - At 4:00 AM, said...

WOW....this microsoft vs sony thing is getting real old. But if any of you know anything about how the tech works in the systems both you microsoft and sony fanboys might realize there pretty much identical. The 360 outperforms the PS3 in areas and the PS3 outperforms the 360 in areas. Just buy the system you think has the games for you. You like american games. .360. .You like Japan games. .PS3. The Blu-ray thing for sony though really is a good thing and i hope it catches on. But if it flops thats trouble for sony and the Playstation 3. But from the looks of it. .if your gona spend your money on one of the new HD movie formats. .Go Blu-ray. .higher capacity. .Like 6 or 7 of the major studios such as MGM, Disney, Sony obviously, Paramount, are only backing Blu-ray. But really what i want to say..im gona agree with an earlier statement. If your concerned about raw horspower and graphics. .Build yourself a PC. .There already way ahead of the consoles. And to all you 360 owners get ready to get owned by us PC gamer once Windows Live is launched and we can play against each other. .then you will see the superiour gaming platform.

whats the deal with all you people whining about 1 or 2 hundred dollars difference, ive had every system since atari. the fact is PS3 has a more powerful console that the game devs havent mastered yet. 360 is at the top of there graphic detail whereas PS3 has just scratched the surface

IN MY OPINION SONY HAS FUCKED UP THEY HAVE UNDERESTIMATED THE 360 AND THEY HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THERE OWN "LEGEND" and havent made the ps3 as good as wot it can or should be

first thought...lets get the juveniles out of the forum.....i'm more interested in the opinions that count and that doesn't include an f-bomb in the response. i can only afford 1 system, so research is very important to me. i've done a lot of research, here, amongst other places....and have come to the conclusion that the 360 is the better buy right now. it has the best over all graphics, performance, and game titles as of right now. (daddy stopped supporting my video game habits at age 12...now 29). though i have no doubt that the ps3 will surpass the 360 in the future, i'm all about the now and how best to spend my money right NOW. lets face it, sony has gotten rid of 2 different systems and introduced 2 new ones in 1 year....clearly, they still have some things to work out...especially backwards compatibility. due to exclusive titles, i plan on owning both. but right now, i think that my 1st purchase will be the 360 and then the ps3 later down the road...i am open to any debate here, (before the end of January anyway), so please throw your opinion out, i'd love to here it.
