Cave Men spotted in Halo 3 !

A family of cave men with a teddy bears have been spotted in Halo 3.

It's Funny and weird and their purpose is not clear. They appear not to do anything that affects the game at all. However, you can punch and shoot them to make them bleed.

Weird! We can only speculate what else will be discovered.

65nm Xbox 360s starting to trickle out?

We've been waiting and waiting, and after months of speculation, a hardware revision, a couple limited editions, and even a new SKU, it looks like Microsoft is finally shipping "Falcon"-equipped Xbox 360s with 65nm CPUs.

According to the eagle-eyed posters in the official Xbox forums, Halo edition 360s from lot #734 appear to be the first machines

Unreal Tournament (PS)3 Impressions

Kotaku got their hand on the latest build of Unreal Tournament 3 for the Playstation 3. It looks to be shaping up more that nice with a control scheme that is lightlning fast...yes even for analog sticks.
"The FPS genre has slowed down in the past few years, literally. Games like Halo may be fun, but they don't have that crack on speed sense of split second intensity that the UT series has offered since its first incarnation. The major blame should probably fall on analog sticks. They just don't work as well as a mouse for extremely quick 180s to rocket jumps to sniper rifle headshots. But in UT3. the controls are extremely tight—they've clearly been given a lot of love. The razor responsive mechanics are in no way hindered by analog sticks. I don't know how that's possible—maybe we've just gotten more used to the controllers, maybe it's Epic ingenuity (and new adjustments like a rotary gun selection—but UT3 has not been slowed down and I will not be playing it with a mouse, even with that option."
Watch out Halo 3. There is a new shooter in town.

BBC Confuses Halo 3 with Killzone 2 in live broadcast.

Good ol' BBC, their "excellent" researchers have cocked up once again by showing Killzone 2 footage in a Halo 3 news report. I'm sure Bill Gates is pleased!

Also a great non-biased report on violence in games, the fact it's aimed at 15 - 25 year olds and how great the Wii is, (note the comment about that Wii Sports is beating all these "shooters" in sales, Nothing to do with the fact the game comes free with the machine at all)
But it all adds up for great journalism on a huge launch for a game for another system.

Microsoft today announced that the Xbox 360 exclusive game Halo 3 has officially become the biggest entertainment launch in history, garnering an estimated $170 million in sales in the United States alone in the first 24 hours. The Xbox 360 title beat previous records set by blockbuster theatrical releases like Spider-man 3 and novels such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Halo 3 is the conclusion to the epic trilogy and picks up where Halo 2 left off, answering questions around the fates of the beloved protagonist Master Chief and his artificial intelligence sidekick Cortana as they struggle to save humankind from destruction at the hands of the alien coalition known as the Covenant. EB Games bids goodbye

The signs have come down at many of the few remaining EB Games stores last week.

Those stores have been rebranded as GameStop stores, the company that purchased EB Games in 2005. Gamers everywhere should prepare to bid a final farewell to EB Games, as the store we know and love appears to be in it's final days.

Crappy Halo 3 Limited Edition case scratches discs to death

Gamers are reporting that the Halo 3 discs in the Limited Edition Halo 3 bundle come heavily scratched upon purchase.

The problem reportedly lies within the fact that there is a poorly made plastic nub and foam disc pad holding mechanism which results in the disc's becoming loose easily and consequently scratched in their case.

'Metroid Prime' Developers On Pushing The Wii

Mark Pacini, game director talks with Mtv.com about the development of Metroid Prime 3 on the Nintendo Wii.

He speaks about the concerns that they had with the control system and how much detail and hard work they put into making sure that they really pushed the graphics to a never before seen level on the system.

Also he stated that as good ad Metroid Prime 3 looks graphically the Nintendo Wii still had power to spare.

Todd Keller, (Art Director) said,
"We don't have a lot of depth with shader stuff, but we can make really good color palettes." Keller, who has been overseeing art in the "Prime" series, said the system can graphically surpass the achievements of "Prime 3," noting "you can definitely do more stuff that will be way beyond that."
Very interesting read.

Xbox 360 Halo 3 Legendary Edition unboxed!

Engadget got their hands on the special edition Xbox 360 all done up in Halo 3 fashion... but that's not all.

The boys from Redmond sent a massive, massive package their way, including a giant, custom army bag, custom dog tags, two army meal rations, a first aid kit, the Xbox itself, two Halo 3 controllers and a headset, the Legendary Edition version of the game.

The rest of the world will have to wait until 9-25-07 to enjoy the same.

98% of Wii Owners Want Online Voice Chat

Currently of all three next-generation home consoles, Nintendo Wii is the only one that does not support voice chat of some kind in its online games.

According to a poll at conducted by Ign.com's editor-in-chief Matt Casamassina, an impressive 98.1% of the 10,706 IGN readers who voted in a poll asking - Do you want a headset and voice chat for Wii's online games? voted yes, they do want voice chat and a Wii headset. Meanwhile, a rather sad 1.8% of the polled readers don't want voice chat.

Thats 10,508 vs. 198.

Halo 3 Scores 10/9/9/9 in Famitsu!!!

Kotaku has reported the first scores of Halo 3 coming from Japan.

Here is a snippet of the post:
"The most respected gaming magazine in Japan has put Halo 3 through its paces, and the verdict is now in. Four reviewers took the game on and Bungie's latest walked away with a score of 10/9/9/9. Relatively huge scores for the game in a country where the Xbox 360 is floundering horribly. I wouldn't look on this as Microsoft's great hope to finally gain ground in the country - after all, Halo 2 got the exact same score when it was released in Japan and the big black box didn't exactly become an overnight sensation."
Is it me or does everyone seem to be completing the game rather quickly. I hope it does last more than the 5 to 6 hours of Halo 2.

Playstation 4: Is Sony quietly exiting the console race?

Sony may be ever so quietly exiting the console race according to some recently released financial data. ( Raw financial data often more than not is a primary indicator, long before mainstream media gets the news, of a company's projected road map. )

According to recent reports TOKYO (Nikkei)--Sony Corp. (6758.TO) shares have fallen 26% since hitting a year-to-date high in late May, as investors have become wary of the company's inward-looking business stance, The Nikkei Financial Daily reported in its Wednesday edition.

Sony's stock ended lower Tuesday, with reports that it plans to sell a
cutting-edge chipmaking facility to Toshiba Corp. (6502.TO) as early as next spring failing to impress investors.

According to news reports, Sony plans to sell manufacturing lines that make the Cell processor to Toshiba for slightly less than Y100 billion. The move follows Sony's announcement last year that it intends to reduce spending on the next-generation chip to succeed the Cell, which is used in Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s PlayStation 3 video game console. Under a strategy of selectively consolidating its semiconductor operations,Sony plans to beef up its image sensor business while jettisoning the Cell.

"All we've heard from Sony recently are plans to quit something," said Eiichi Katayama, an analyst at Nomura Securities Co. "The company hasn't presented us with any new growth strategies."
What does all this mean in English?

It means that Sony for some reason or another will be selling the manufacturing lines that make the cell chip. However the biggest nugget of information to take away from this post is that Sony is now reducing its spending on the "next generation chip that will succeed the Cell presumably for Playstation 4. With the added competition that Sony now has in Microsoft and Nintendo, the last thing in world Sony would want to do is be technologically behind it competitors on the next hardware cycle unless planning to bow out of the hardware race.

Sony may be looking to pull a Sega and go multi-platform software only.

Is this the first signs that the Playstation Brand is on its way out? Only time will tell for sure.

Wii Lightsaber coming Spring 2008

LucasArts announced today in a Press Release that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be ported over to the Wii.

They tell us which quarter it will be released and that it will allow us to use an actual ‘lightsaber’.

Let’s just hope Krome Studios does better with this release than The Legend of Spyro.

PlayStation 3 benefiting from Gears of War?!

Apparently the Playstation 3 will be riding the Gears of War wave so to speak.
"Epic Games Vice President, Mark Rein, has stated that PlayStation 3 owners will have benefited greatly from the Xbox 360 title Gears of War, due to the developer's experience of already releasing a game utilizing the Unreal Engine 3.

Speaking with consumer website Eurogamer, Rein stated, “PlayStation 3 is very much benefiting from Gears of War. That sounds silly, but it's very much benefiting from Gears of War.”

Rein observed that the company have made significant progress with PS3 architecture compared to the same time last year with Microsoft's console, largely due to the efforts involved with developing the Unreal Engine 3-ready Xbox 360 action blaster."

Codemasters release statement regarding Colin McRae's Death

Racing legend Colin McRae, his son and two family friends have reported to have died over the weekend due to a helicopter crash near the family home in Scotland.

McRae was taking his son and two friends for a ride in the helicopter when something went drastically wrong and it crashed.

Online Gamer Dies After 3 Day Online Marathon

A 30 year-old Chinese internet user dropped dead after a three day online marathon at a local cybercafe.

The man collapsed at his computer and medical personnel were not able to revive him.

I can add absolutely nothing to this. Wow.

DualShock 3 confirmed!

DualShock 3 will be at TGS and possibly the release of firmware 2.00

A listen to the latest episode of the 1UP Yours podcast reveals that the rumbling DualShock 3 is "confirmed," at least according to 1UP's lead Sony fanboy, Shane.

He says that TGS will ultimately reveal the long-awaited rumbling controllers and the now-legendary 2.0 firmware, which will magically allow you to run many XMB tools from within a game.

Report: Nintendo Makes About $49 Per Wii Sold in U.S.

An analyst in Japan has estimated the profit that each Wii sold generates in Japan, the U.S. and Europe.

With currency conversions factored in, the Wii makes the most money in Europe ($74 each), followed by the U.S. ($49) and Japan ($13).

Halo 3 to come with 12 Multiplayer Maps

We're not sure if this information/ screenshot has anything to do with the Norwegian Game Store that sold Halo 3 early, but somebody definitely got their hands on a copy and took a picture of the complete list of maps in the game.

In the screenshot provided, you can see all 11 Multiplayer maps which include 3 that have never been heard of and they are, "Construct", "The Pit" and "Isolation".

Halo 3 will be unveiled in its entirety to the critics next week. The reviews will begin as early as Sunday Sept 9th however there will be a embargo in place until September 23rd.
