Levine talks BioShock DLC and what's to come

In the latest issue of Games for Windows Magazine, 2K Boston head honcho Ken Levine talks about what's in store for BioShock as far as downloadable content goes and what they're already working on. Levine confirms that their studio is working on new content, but will not be adding new narrative storyline saying that "I'm not a really big fan of expanding things just by linearly adding to the experience, adding a new campaign, as much as I am of enhancing the original experience and adding replayability to that experience". Levine then goes on to say that he feels that BioShock's overall combat can be expanded upon and that numerous plasmids were cut during development, so they could be brought back in the form of DLC.

Nobody knows when the expanded BioShock content will land on the Marketplace or what specifically 2K Boston has planned, but what we do know is that we won't be getting our hopes up for an expanded BioShock storyline or additional campaign missions. Though, we're simple people and would be happy with a few new plasmids.

Is 'Bioshock' the best game of 2007?

Bioshock, 2K Games' new M-rated shooter/survival horror/adventure/RPG title for Xbox 360 and PC. If you love gaming, if you think gaming can be a form of art, if you like your digital entertainment to be smart, stylish and suspenseful, "BioShock" is for you. It's also a serious Game of the Year candidate.

MSNBC's John Ryan apparently feels it is.

Bioshock has a HUGE widescreen display bug on both Xbox and PC!

Both demo versions of Bioshock have a huge bug dealing with setting the FOV in widescreen resolutions - to create the 16:9 image, it's rendering a 4:3 image, zooming in and chopping off the bottom and the top.

Make sure that 2K games knows that this is completely unacceptable and ruins the game for a lot of consumers.

Review: PC BioShock Outshines 360 Version

If you're debating which version to get, the PC version handles better. In part it's because of the greater precision with the mouse and keyboard, but also with how the plasmids and weapons are selected.

With the default settings RMB switches between the two, LMB fires, and you use the mouse wheel instead of a radial menu to select a specific plasmid or weapon. This keeps you rooted in the action to a greater degree than in the Xbox 360 version, since you don't have to keep pausing the game. By hitting Shift you can bring up a plasmid and weapon selection screen if you so desire, but the mouse wheel scrolled through fast enough to stay useful.

Will there be multiplayer or online gaming in BioShock?

Take a deep breath guys. You could potentially end up choking on a lot of seawater after hearing this. Elizabeth of 2K Games has posted a full Q&A entry on their site to answer some of the more popular questions surrounding Bioshock (for the PC and 360). The most interesting tidbit down the list is:

Will there be multiplayer or online gaming in BioShock?

"There will be no multiplayer (hold on before you complain!!!!) but for a very specific reason. BioShock features a compelling storyline that revolves around the experiences of one man as he enters the decaying world of Rapture. Having a multiplayer component would have compromised the story we were trying to tell so we made the decision to keep this game as a single player experience. There will be an online component, however, where new content can be downloaded."
